Together and Stronger Africa

Wherever we go, we go together.

The membership house of the global African family: professionals, entrepreneurs and families abroad, Africans living elsewhere on the continent, and everyone from elsewhere who has made Africa home. One card, benefits negotiated in great numbers, and a community that stands behind you.

64%

of people born in sub-Saharan Africa who live abroad live in another African country. Most African journeys are within Africa.

Two doors, one house.

Every house of Together and Stronger serves two families at once. Choose your door. Many members use both.

Africans abroad & across Africa

You are from Africa and you live somewhere else.

In Europe, North America, the Gulf or Asia — or in an African country that is not your own. Membership works where you live and work, and where your family lives.

  • Fairer terms for the money you send home, to a bank account or straight to a phone.
  • Flights home on the routes families really use, in the seasons they travel.
  • Health cover for parents and children at home, arranged from where you live.
  • Calls and data that do not punish you for having family in two countries.
  • Trusted help with the property, the investment and the documents you cannot oversee in person.
  • A community that stands behind your family if the worst happens far from home.

At home in Africa, from elsewhere

You are from another continent and you live in Africa.

You came to an African city to work, study, build a business or raise a family. Membership makes daily life simpler and keeps you close to home.

  • Health, dental and vision programmes where you live, through licensed providers.
  • Banking, mobile money and everyday savings, negotiated for people who are new to the country.
  • Travel to your home country, and across the continent’s own routes.
  • Referrals for residence papers, permits, tenancy and schooling — information, not advice.
  • Recognition of your qualifications, and the professional networks of your new city.
  • A card recognised by every regional house of the family, wherever you go next.

Membership is free. Children under 18 are included on a parent’s membership; relatives and friends are welcome to join in their own right.

What our numbers negotiate.

Your membership covers twelve areas of everyday life: one family catalogue, shaped for African lives. These eight matter most between the continent and the world.

    Flights home

Members travel home on fares we negotiate for the routes African families actually take: Europe, North America and the Gulf to the continent, and the continent’s own skies. Including the journeys nobody plans.

    End of life & repatriation

Programmes through licensed providers for bringing a loved one home, or for a dignified burial where they lived. Beside them stands the Mutual Aid Compact between member associations.

    All twelve areas of benefit

The savings circle.

A financial club with clear rules, and the principle behind this membership.

A savings circle is exact. A fixed group of members contributes a fixed amount on a fixed date. At each round one member receives the whole pool, in an agreed order, until every member has received once. Professionals, entrepreneurs and families use it to fund a deposit on a property, working capital for a company, a year of tuition. Many know it as tontine, esusu, stokvel or chama.

Four rules make it work.

Fixed contributions Agreed order of payment Open accounts Every member accountable

A circle of twelveEvery member contributes. One receives the pool. Then the next, in turn, until the round is complete.
The same circle, drawn largeEvery household adds its weight to the negotiation. Every household shares in what is won.
Colleagues seated along a boardroom table during a presentation

Now draw that circle at the scale of hundreds of thousands of households.

That is Together and Stronger. One household has no bargaining power. A membership that large sits across the table from an airline, a bank or an insurer, and is heard.

We do not run savings circles and we never hold members’ money. The membership applies the same principle to purchasing power: we stand together, and each of us is stronger for it.

No one goes home alone.

Four colleagues greeting one another with handshakes in a modern office

Every community that lives far from home knows the call that comes at night. Someone has died — in Paris, in Houston, in Dubai, in Johannesburg — and the family wants them to rest at home. Within the hour the messages go round: who can contribute, how much is still missing, which relative can sign the papers.

Our communities have always answered that call. But they have answered it one collection at a time, and too many families have gone into debt to do what love and duty ask of them.

We have always stood by one another. Now we do it organised.

The Mutual Aid Compact

Associations that join Together and Stronger Africa stand together when a member dies far from home. Each association in the compact answers for the others, so that a small community in a distant city never has to carry the cost alone — whether the family chooses repatriation or a dignified burial where their relative lived.

Programmes through licensed providers

Beside the compact, we arrange final-expense and repatriation programmes through licensed providers. And our free guides set out the steps, the documents and the consular formalities in plain language, for the day a family needs them: when a member dies far from home.

Money home, on the phone.

Mobile money has made Africa the world leader in payments by phone. An importer in Lagos, a consultant in Nairobi and a student in Dakar are all paid the same way: on the phone in their pocket.

Every transfer is a family’s rent, a tuition bill or a payment on a property — and every transfer carries a cost. The membership negotiates that cost corridor by corridor, to bank accounts and to mobile money services such as M-Pesa, Orange Money, MTN MoMo and Wave.

Home is also a project.

For many of us, home is not only where we come from. It is a house under construction, land bought as an investment, a business started with a partner, a relative’s tuition, a parent’s healthcare — managed by phone, across time zones, on trust.

Membership puts verification, document help and referrals behind that trust.

  • Building from afar

How to follow a site you cannot visit: staged payments, dated photographs, independent checks.

  • Land and papers

Titles, searches and powers of attorney explained, with referrals to verified professionals in the country concerned.

  • School fees and care

Paying a school or a clinic directly, and looking after parents from another continent.

  • People you can trust

Checks on contractors, agents and documents before any money moves.

Guides and referrals are general information. They are not legal, tax or financial advice.

To the presidents and the treasurers.

Professional networks, business associations, alumni groups, city and regional associations: these are the institutions that have carried African communities abroad for generations.

Their leaders are professionals, business owners and presidents who give their time. If you chair an association, or keep its accounts as treasurer, this house was built with you in mind. Your association joins free and loses nothing of itself.

What we believe.

A family abroad is not a family that left. It is a family that grew.

  • Stronger communities.

The association, the professional network and the alumni group are our first institutions. We build on them. We do not replace them.

  • Always stronger together.

One household cannot bargain with an airline or a bank. A continent of households can.

  • Together we stay strong.

Across borders and across generations, in the language we speak at home and in the ones we learned on the way.

  • Together we stand.

When one of us falls, the rest of us carry the weight.

  • Together, we get things done — beautifully.

With care, with rigour, and with pride in where we come from.

TAS stands for Together and Stronger. It is our name, and it is our promise.

Join us — or serve with us.

Membership is free, and open to every adult whose life crosses a border that touches Africa. And if you have time, a language or a profession to give, there is a place of honour for you beside us: as an ambassador in your city, a liaison for your association, an interpreter, a guide writer.

What does TAS stand for?

TAS stands for Together and Stronger. TAS Africa is the family’s house for the African continent and for Africans everywhere.

Who can join?

Any adult whose life crosses a border that touches Africa: Africans living outside the continent, Africans living in an African country other than their own, and people from other continents who live in Africa. Children under 18 are included on a parent’s membership; relatives and friends are welcome.

Is there a fee to join?

No. Membership is free. One membership per adult; children under 18 are included on a parent’s membership. Associations join at no cost.

What do I receive as a member?

Your digital member card, on your phone. The benefits of twelve areas of everyday life, negotiated in great numbers. A community that stands behind your family. And a card recognised by every house of the Together and Stronger family. See the twelve areas.

Do you ask about my immigration or residence status?

Never. We do not ask for it, we do not record it, and it plays no part in membership.

Is this insurance?

No. Membership is not insurance. Insurance and repatriation programmes are provided by licensed providers, under their own terms. The Mutual Aid Compact is solidarity between associations: it is not insurance and creates no right to payment.

I lead an association — how do we join?

Register your association on the community leaders page. Associations join at no cost, keep their name and their independence, and bring their members as they are organised today.

Can I give my time?

Yes, and it is an honour to welcome you. Members serve as community ambassadors in their city, association liaisons, interpreters, guide writers and welcome volunteers for new arrivals. Serve with us.

How is this site related to the other Together and Stronger sites?

TAS Africa is one of seven regional houses — Europe, Canada, India, China, Africa, East Asia and West Asia — beside TAS Americas, TAS Member Services and the TAS Foundation. One card is recognised by every house.

Do you give legal, immigration, tax or financial advice?

No. Our guides are general information, and legal and document help is by referral to qualified professionals. We are independent: not a government body, embassy or public authority, and not affiliated with any.
